Terms and Conditions

Effective: September 2026

HB Electrical Bristol, a trading name of Bristol Home Rewires Ltd (company number 16221713), registered in England and Wales. Registered office: 1 Bibury Avenue, Patchway, Bristol, BS34 6DE. Contact: info@hbelectricalbristol.co.uk or 07949 090858.

Domestic and commercial electrical works: electrical installation, testing, inspection, repair and associated works.

Please read before accepting a quotation or booking work.

These terms apply alongside the written quotation, estimate, scope of works and any agreed variations. Where a project-specific quotation expressly differs from these terms, the project-specific written term will take priority.

HB Electrical aims to keep these terms clear and practical. They set out what both parties can expect before, during and after the works. Nothing in these terms affects a consumer's statutory rights.

1. Definitions and contract documents

"HB Electrical", "we", "us" and "our" mean HB Electrical Bristol. "Client", "you" and "your" mean the person or organisation instructing the works.

The contract consists of the accepted quotation or estimate, the agreed scope/specification, these Terms & Conditions, and any later written variations. Acceptance may be by signature, email, message, payment of a requested deposit, or by instructing us to commence.

2. Quotations, estimates and validity

Unless stated otherwise, quotations are valid for 30 days. A quotation is based on the information and access reasonably available when it is prepared.

An estimate is an indication of likely cost rather than a fixed price. Where a document is expressly described as provisional, budgetary or estimated, the final cost may change as the scope is confirmed.

  • Prices may change where the client changes the specification, quantities, layout, finish or programme.
  • Hidden defects, blocked routes, unsafe existing wiring, asbestos-containing materials, structural issues or other concealed conditions are not included unless expressly stated.
  • Any obvious pricing or clerical error may be corrected before work proceeds.

3. VAT and pricing

Unless the quotation states otherwise, prices are exclusive of VAT and VAT will be added at the applicable rate. Where a price is expressly stated as including VAT, that stated total applies.

Third-party fees, permits, parking, access charges, specialist reports, scaffold, builders' work, decorating and making good are excluded unless specifically included.

4. Booking, deposits and programme

A booking is not secured until any requested deposit or initial payment has been received. Dates discussed before payment are provisional unless we confirm otherwise in writing.

Deposits and advance payments may be used to reserve labour, order materials and cover project preparation. Any cancellation refund will take account of the client's statutory rights and any reasonable costs or losses already incurred by us.

5. Payment terms

The payment schedule stated on the quotation takes priority. For larger projects we may require staged payments, for example a deposit, first-fix or progress payment, and a final balance.

Invoices are due on the date stated on the invoice. Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the final balance is due on completion of the agreed works and final testing.

Certification and other completion documentation may be issued following completion and settlement of the final account, subject always to any legal or scheme requirements that apply.

  • The client must not unreasonably withhold payment for minor snagging that does not prevent safe use of the completed installation.
  • Where genuine snagging remains, we will agree a reasonable plan to rectify it.
  • We may suspend further work where an overdue stage payment remains unpaid after reasonable notice.

6. Changes and additional works

Any work outside the accepted scope is a variation and may result in an additional charge and/or additional time. Wherever reasonably possible, variations will be described and priced before the extra work proceeds.

Where urgent additional work is required for electrical safety, protection of property or to make the installation safe, we will seek approval before proceeding where reasonably practicable.

7. Access, attendance and client responsibilities

The client must provide safe and reasonable access to the property, working areas, consumer units, meters, lofts, cupboards and other relevant areas at the agreed time. The client is responsible for obtaining any landlord, freeholder, management-company or other third-party permission required for the works.

  • Work areas should be cleared of fragile or valuable items before attendance.
  • The client must tell us about known asbestos, hazardous materials, concealed services, alarms, medical equipment, critical supplies or other relevant risks.
  • Reasonable access to electricity, water and welfare facilities should be available where required for the works.

8. Missed appointments, cancellation and rescheduling

If the client needs to cancel or rearrange an appointment, as much notice as possible should be given. Where insufficient notice is provided, we may charge a reasonable amount reflecting labour time reserved, travel, materials, administration and losses actually incurred.

For booked project work, cancellation after labour or materials have been committed may result in a reasonable cancellation charge, subject to applicable consumer law. We will not impose a charge that the law does not permit.

9. Consumer cancellation rights

Where you are a consumer and the contract is made at your home, online, by telephone or otherwise away from our business premises, you may have a legal right to cancel within 14 days without giving a reason, subject to statutory exceptions.

If you ask us to begin work during that 14-day cancellation period, you expressly request early performance. If you then cancel after work has started, you may be required to pay a proportionate amount for work and services supplied up to cancellation. If the service has been fully performed within the cancellation period following the required request/acknowledgement, the statutory cancellation right may be lost.

Emergency repair or maintenance work specifically requested by a consumer may be subject to different statutory rules. These terms do not restrict any rights you have under consumer law.

10. Existing installations and unforeseen conditions

Electrical work frequently involves existing wiring and concealed parts of a building that cannot be fully assessed before work begins. We are not responsible for pre-existing defects or for failures in parts of the installation that are outside our agreed scope.

If unsafe, non-compliant or defective existing work is discovered, we will explain the issue and, where appropriate, provide a price for remedial work. We may refuse to energise or reconnect an installation where doing so would be unsafe or unlawful.

11. Making good and decoration

Electrical installation may require lifting floors, cutting access holes, chasing walls or disturbing finishes. Making good is included only where expressly stated in the quotation.

Unless specifically included, final decorating, specialist plaster finishes, wallpaper, tiling, flooring replacement and colour matching are excluded. We will take reasonable care but cannot guarantee that existing finishes can be disturbed and reinstated invisibly.

12. Materials, equipment and client-supplied items

Materials supplied by HB Electrical will be of suitable quality and specification for the agreed works. Equivalent products may be used where a specified item is unavailable, provided the substitute is reasonably equivalent and any material change is agreed where appropriate.

Manufacturer warranties apply to products in accordance with the manufacturer's terms. HB Electrical's workmanship warranty does not extend a manufacturer's product warranty.

Client-supplied or reused equipment is installed or retained at the client's request and is excluded from our five-year workmanship warranty to the extent that a fault arises from the item itself, its age, condition, compatibility or manufacture.

13. Testing, certification and Building Regulations

Where applicable, completed electrical work will be inspected and tested in accordance with the requirements relevant to the work carried out. The appropriate electrical certificate will be provided for the completed scope.

Where work is notifiable under the Building Regulations and is carried out through an applicable competent-person scheme, the relevant notification will be made and the scheme provider will issue the Building Regulations compliance documentation.

Certificates relate to the installation and scope tested. They do not amount to a warranty that unrelated or concealed existing parts of the property are defect-free.

14. Five-year workmanship warranty

HB Electrical provides a five-year workmanship warranty on qualifying installation work carried out by us, commencing from completion of the relevant works.

If a defect is shown to have resulted from our workmanship during the warranty period, we will return within a reasonable time and rectify that workmanship defect without charge.

  • The warranty does not cover fair wear and tear, misuse, accidental damage, water ingress, pest damage, fire, flood, power-supply events or alterations by others.
  • It does not cover pre-existing wiring, existing equipment, client-supplied items or reused equipment unless expressly agreed.
  • It does not cover faults caused by a product failure where the workmanship itself is not defective; the relevant manufacturer warranty may apply.
  • The client should notify us promptly and allow us a reasonable opportunity to inspect and rectify before appointing others, except where urgent safety action is reasonably required.

15. Delays and events outside our control

Start dates and completion dates are given in good faith. We will use reasonable efforts to meet the agreed programme, but dates may need to change because of hidden defects, client variations, material shortages, illness, access restrictions, third-party delays, weather, utility-provider issues or other matters outside our reasonable control.

We will keep the client informed of material changes to the programme.

16. Damage and limitation of responsibility

We will exercise reasonable care and skill when carrying out the works. We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of contract or failure to use reasonable care and skill, subject to applicable law.

We are not responsible for loss or damage caused by pre-existing defects, inaccurate information supplied by the client, unauthorised interference by others, or matters outside our reasonable control.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or rights that cannot legally be excluded.

17. Parking, permits and congestion charges

Where parking, permits, tolls, clean-air/congestion charges or similar site-specific costs are reasonably incurred in carrying out the works, these may be charged to the client unless the quotation states that they are included.

18. Waste and removed equipment

Removal and disposal of waste, old accessories, cable, consumer units or other equipment is included only where stated or reasonably incidental to the agreed work. Items removed from the property may be disposed of unless the client asks us in advance to retain them.

19. Photographs and records

We may take photographs of electrical work, test results and site conditions for job records, certification, quality control and evidence of concealed work. We will handle personal information in accordance with applicable data-protection law.

We will not use identifiable photographs of the client's home for marketing where consent is required without obtaining appropriate permission.

20. Complaints and snagging

If you believe there is a problem with our work, please contact HB Electrical as soon as reasonably possible and provide details of the issue. We will investigate and, where the matter is our responsibility, arrange appropriate remedial action.

Contact: info@hbelectricalbristol.co.uk | 07949 090858.

21. Termination or suspension

We may suspend or terminate the works on reasonable notice where the client fails to make an agreed payment, prevents safe access, behaves abusively or threateningly towards our staff, or requires us to carry out unsafe or unlawful work.

On termination, the client remains responsible for sums properly due for work completed, materials ordered or supplied, and reasonable committed costs, subject to applicable law.

22. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you retain any mandatory rights relating to where legal proceedings may be brought.

23. Acceptance

By accepting a quotation, paying a requested deposit, or instructing HB Electrical to proceed, the client confirms that they have had the opportunity to read these Terms & Conditions and agrees that they form part of the contract.

Where the client is a consumer, acceptance of these terms does not remove or reduce any statutory rights.
