Garden & Outdoor Power in Bristol
Gardens get used far more when the power is where you need it.
At HB Electrical, we install outdoor sockets, garden lighting and power supplies to garden rooms, garden offices and sheds across Bristol and the surrounding areas.
We plan each installation around how you actually use the garden, then fit it neatly, with cable routes kept tidy and out of the way of borders, lawns and future planting.
Power and light, right where you need it outside.
Sockets & Garden Lighting
An outdoor socket means no more extension leads trailing through a window for the lawnmower, pressure washer or string lights.
Well-placed garden lighting makes paths and steps safer after dark and lets you enjoy the space in the evening.

Power to Garden Rooms & Offices
Garden rooms, garden offices and workshops need a proper supply of their own. We run power from the house to the outbuilding, usually in steel wire armoured (SWA) cable, which is designed to be buried or fixed outdoors and resists accidental damage.
Inside, we fit sockets, lighting and, where it suits, a small consumer unit so the building has its own protection.
If you work from a garden office, we make sure the supply is sized sensibly for computers, heating and anything else you plan to run.
Built for the Outdoors
Outdoor electrics face rain, frost, garden tools and curious pets, so safety is built into every stage.
Outdoor circuits are protected by an RCD, a device that cuts the power in a fraction of a second if it detects current leaking to earth. Fittings are chosen with a suitable IP rating, which tells you how well they’re sealed against dust and water.
Buried cables are laid at a sensible depth and their route is noted, so nobody digs into them later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you run power to my garden room or shed?
Yes. We run a dedicated supply from the house to garden rooms, garden offices, workshops and sheds, usually in steel wire armoured cable that is designed for outdoor and buried use. Inside the building we can fit sockets, lighting and a small consumer unit where it suits. We size the supply around what you plan to run, such as computers or heating.
Are outdoor sockets safe?
They are when installed properly. We fit weatherproof sockets with a suitable IP rating, which shows how well they are sealed against water and dust. The circuit is protected by an RCD, which cuts the power very quickly if it detects a fault to earth. Cables are fixed or buried so they are protected from garden tools and wear.
What is SWA cable and why is it used?
SWA stands for steel wire armoured. It is a cable with a layer of steel wires around the inner cores, which protects it from damage when buried or fixed outdoors. It is the usual choice for running power down a garden to an outbuilding. We lay it along a sensible route at a suitable depth and note where it runs.
Can you install garden lighting?
Yes. We install lighting for paths, patios, steps, walls and planting, using weatherproof fittings suited to outdoor use. Good garden lighting makes the space safer after dark and lets you use it in the evening. We plan the layout with you, keep cable routes tidy and can add switching from inside the house for convenience.
How much does outdoor electrical work cost?
Every outdoor job is different, depending on distance from the house, how the cable is routed and what you need at the far end. For that reason we give a free, fixed quote after seeing the property, so you know the full cost before any work starts. There are no surprise extras once the price is agreed.
Electrical work should support the finished space.
