Extractor Fan Installation in Bristol

Steam from showers and cooking has to go somewhere. Without good extraction it settles on cold walls and windows, leading to condensation, peeling paint and black mould.

At HB Electrical, we fit new and replacement extractor fans in bathrooms, en suites, kitchens and utility rooms across Bristol and the surrounding areas.

Many older fans move very little air, so an upgrade often makes a noticeable difference.

Clear the steam. Protect the room.

The Right Fan, the Right Control

The control matters as much as the fan. A timer overrun fan keeps running for a set time after the light goes off, clearing the steam left behind after a shower.

A humidistat fan switches itself on when the air becomes damp and runs until it clears, which suits bathrooms that are used at all hours. Some fans combine both.

We talk through how the room is used and recommend a sensible option, including quieter models for en suites next to bedrooms.

Safe in Every Bathroom Zone

Bathrooms are divided into zones based on how close they are to the bath or shower, and each zone has rules on what electrical equipment can go there.

Fittings near water need a suitable IP rating, and some positions call for low-voltage fans supplied through a transformer.

Every fan is fitted with a proper means of isolation, so it can be switched off safely for cleaning or maintenance.

Why Choose HB Electrical?

  • Bathroom, kitchen and utility room fans
  • Timer overrun and humidistat options
  • Correct IP rating for each bathroom zone
  • Ducted properly to the outside
  • Short, straight duct runs for better airflow
  • Quieter models for en suites
  • Tested before we leave
  • 400+ honest Google reviews

Planning a New Extractor Fan?

A fan only works if the air has somewhere to go, so we duct every fan to the outside through a wall, ceiling or soffit, with a vent to finish. Duct runs are kept as short and straight as possible, because long, kinked runs reduce airflow and add noise.

We finish neatly, clear up after ourselves and test the fan before we leave, with a fixed quote agreed upfront.

“Harry and co Wired an extension in Filton for us, reasonable price and very easy to work with, there was also an existing intermittent tripping fault on the main house which was causing the tenants real problems, I had two other electricians come out and blame the fridge then freezer then dishwasher and so on, I asked harry to take a look and he identified the issue and sorted on the day, I wouldn’t go anywhere other than Hb electrical for future work.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace my old extractor fan?

Yes. We replace noisy, weak or broken extractor fans in bathrooms, kitchens and utility rooms. Where the existing duct is in good condition, a replacement can often use the same route. If the old fan was poorly ducted or undersized, we can suggest improvements so the new fan works properly. Every fan is tested before we leave.

What is the difference between a timer fan and a humidistat fan?

A timer overrun fan runs while the light is on and keeps going for a set time after it is switched off, clearing leftover steam. A humidistat fan senses moisture in the air and switches on automatically when it gets damp, running until the air clears. Some models combine both. We recommend the right option for how the room is used.

What are bathroom zones?

Bathroom zones are areas defined by how close they are to the bath or shower. Each zone has rules about which electrical equipment can be fitted there and what level of water protection it needs. Fittings near water need a suitable IP rating, and some positions call for a low-voltage fan. We check the zone before choosing and positioning your fan.

Does an extractor fan need to vent outside?

Yes. A fan only removes moisture if the air is taken out of the building, so we duct every fan to the outside through a wall, ceiling or soffit, finished with a vent. Venting into a loft simply moves the damp problem elsewhere. We keep duct runs as short and straight as possible so the fan works efficiently and quietly.

Will an extractor fan help with condensation and mould?

In most cases it helps a great deal. Condensation and mould usually come from moist air settling on cold surfaces, and a properly sized, well-ducted fan removes that moisture at the source. A humidistat fan is particularly useful because it runs whenever the room is damp. Where a fan already exists but is not coping, an upgrade often makes a clear difference.
